Coffee

Is there anything more heavenly, more breathtakingly good, than a cup of boiling-hot coffee? Is there anything that can compare to that bitter flavor, to that thick perfume, to that heart-warming sensation? What is it that makes this drink such an addictive thing?

I can hear someone crying "Caffeine!", and I can't help but chuckle and shake my head lightly. Of course, caffeine is addictive, but the real thing that makes you incapable of saying "no, thank you" to that kind old lady that comes to you with a cup of the smoking infusion, is the memories. Coffee brings memories back.

I don't know whether this is the caffeine's fault, but I can't help being reminded of that special someone every time I stare into the reflective depths of my cup. Every time I breathe that delicious vapor, I feel her delicate scent flowing around me… embracing me, warming my body as if she was right beside me.

Her finger around mine, as I take the fragile cup. Her eyes shimmering softly in the surface of the dark liquid. Her lips, softly touching mine, her love warming me from the inside-out. A sudden awareness rushing through my mind, everything looks brighter, sounds sharper, feels stronger.

It is this mysterious effects that make coffee such an addictive drink. Perhaps they vary from person to person, but anybody who has ever felt into the darkness of plain, black coffee knows the power doesn't actually lie in the caffeine, but in the almost ritual way of sipping this wondrous infusion.

So, the next time you drink a cup of coffee, be sure to stare into its depths, to breathe deeply and enjoy its tasty aroma, to savor its bitterness, 'cause there's nothing more heavenly, more breathtakingly good than a cup of boiling-hot coffee.
A (very lame) attempt at poetic prose... sigh...
